As the sun starts to make an appearance, we’re already dusting off the flip-flops and stocking up on sun cream. But one of the best parts of summer is, of course, the barbeque – and there’s no excuse for not having some chocolatey recipes at the ready for the next sunny Sunday afternoon.

The chocolate banana

Take one banana, preferably more towards the riper side than unripe, and peel it, place it on some tinfoil, and cut it right down the middle. You’ll want to make sure the banana is still attached, so only cut halfway down. Take some chocolate buttons – white, milk, or dark – and slot into the cut, all the way down.

Carefully wrap the tin foil over the banana so it’s covered, then place on the barbeque for a few minutes. You should open it up to a baked banana filled with delicious, melted chocolate. Add in marshmallows or dribbles of peanut butter if you’re feeling extra adventurous, or dollop some fresh cream or crème fraiche on top.

Better yet – get your hands on our chocolate BBQ kit, including mini marshmallows, Belgian chocolate buttons to melt, a punnet of chocolate strawberries, with a tin tray and skewers.

Chocolate barbeque sauce

If you’re looking for the perfect chocolate sauce to drizzle over chicken or meat, look no further than this Saveur recipe. Simply melt 2 tbsp unsalted butter in a pan over a medium heat, before adding 2 cloves minced garlic and 1 small yellow onion, cooking for about 4 to 6 minutes.

Stir in 1 oz chopped chocolate, 1 ½ cups ketchup, 1/3 cup brown sugar, ¼ cup brewed coffee, 2 tsp honey, 2 tsp cider vinegar, 2 tsp unsweetened cocoa powder, 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce, 2 tsp dry mustard, 2 tsp chilli powder, 2 tsp salt, 1 tsp ground black pepper, ½ tsp ground coriander and ¼ tsp cayenne. Stir until thickened, for about 3 minutes, then store and refrigerate for up to a week.
